Mobile Phone Credit Card Technology

As we have seen that mobile phones are now being used for quite a lot of things rather then just making calls. Now one additional feature that these mobile phones are about to possess is to act as a credit card.

A development firm has indicated that people could be using their mobile phones as credit cards in the near future.

The Symbian Foundation said that Near Field Communications (NFC) technology will play a key part in the next-generation versions of the open-source Symbian operating system, Nokia Conversations reported.

S^3 and S^4, as the systems are known, will begin running on phones from late 2010.

NFC allows a device to perform tasks, such as making a payment, if it is held near or against a specially-adapted reader.

Therefore, phones enabled with the technology will be able to be used as credit cards.

They might also be "pre-loaded" with credit in the same way as the Oyster cards currently used on the London transport system.

"Right now there are 466 features being developed for S^3 and S^4," Nokia Conversations added.

Scott Totzke, head of global security at BlackBerry makers Research In Motion, told V3.co.uk this week that he expects mobile phone payments to become "a reality" for many users over the next few years.

Microsoft OneApp - Unlocking the Potential of Feature Phones

Microsoft OneApp, software application that allows feature phones to run mobile applications like Facebook, Twitter, Windows Live Messenger, and other popular applications. OneApp complements Microsoft’s existing mobile strategy by bringing mobile applications and services to feature phones in emerging markets.

OneApp’s software plus services design enables mobile apps to run on feature phones that have limited memory and processing capability. Customers will experience OneApp on their phone as a single application where they can easily access all of their mobile applications.

Technically:

  • OneApp’s very minimal on-phone footprint of just 150 KB (whereas most downloaded mobile apps are measured in terms of MB) makes installing it quick and easy.
  • OneApp will launch only the parts of a mobile app that you want to use; that cuts down on additional installation time and the need to store all of your mobile apps on your phone.
  • OneApp uses data networks very efficiently to help lower data access charges, which can really create substantial savings for the customer.
  • OneApp includes cloud services that can help shift processing and storage weight from the phone to the Internet, which improves overall performance.

As per Microsoft, Blue Label Telecoms in South Africa will be the first to launch their consumer mobile service using Microsoft OneApp. OneApp is part of the release of their service called ‘mibli, powered by Microsoft OneApp’ which will ship with over a dozen new mobile applications, including a Mobile Wallet. Customers in South Africa will be able to download and install mibli for free. They have plans to offer more applications which would be available over the next year, focusing on areas like healthcare.

As per Microsoft, they hope to develop new business opportunities for their partners like Blue Label Telecoms and create more opportunities for the industry as a whole. Software developers are going to be able to write new apps for OneApp using familiar industry standards like Javascript and XML. The OneApp software developer kit is expected to be available for developers by the end of this year.

Windows 7 - Release Date Announced

I am sure many of us have already been privileged by using Windows 7 Beta and even more of us are still waiting for the release of Windows 7 and hopefully this new version will replace their previous operating system: Windows Vista in a better way.

The developers promise Windows 7 will be simpler to use, and more functional, with less of what you don't need and more of what you do.

Microsoft announced that it will make available an upgrade option in order for partners to be able to offer their customers the ability to buy a Windows Vista-based PC, and then just install Windows 7 when it’s ready.

The release date for Windows 7 has been confirmed as October 22, 2009. In addition, Windows Server 2008 R2 will also be available at around the same time.

Microsoft says it has been working closely with partners to ensure their mutual customers can enjoy all the benefits of Windows 7 once it is released.

Apple MacBooks - New Design

“Apple introduces new unibody design method”

Apple claims to have taken a fresh approach to building their product. What this basically means is that they have taken design to a new level. Instead of having multiple parts that fit together making up the macbook, they have replaced the many parts with one single part.

The new unibody design consists of a single piece of carved alluminum that encloses the macbook's critical parts, giving it a sturdy, strong but also light design. Each casing is milled from a solid block of aluminum using hi-tech CNC machines.

Apple engineers believe this new desgn method will further reduce failures, thereby extending the life and reliability of the macbook.

Every Macbook has the power saving NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor and the new MacBook Pro trackpad, giving more room to track and click.

Considering that customers are increasingly demanding easy to use, strong, mobile products Apple seems to have taken a step in the right direction with their new design.

Bluetooth 3.0 + HR

Now Bluetooth up to 7 times faster.

With the new version of Bluetooth i.e. Bluetooth 3.0 + HS is said to have transfer speed of approximately 24Mbps. The current version i.e. Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR has a transfer speed of 3Mbps which means that Bluetooth 3.0 + HS will be approximately 7 times faster than the current version.

Computer and mobile manufacturers are already showing interest as assumed but apart from that the device is also attracting attention of television manufacturers.

Along with the increased transfer rate Bluetooth 3.0 + HS will also run on a more energy efficient systems, thus saving mobile devices power that have the device installed.

Hopefully the device will be available in the first quarter of 2010, till then we just have to wait to see our devices fire up with Bluetooth 3.0 + HR.

Sendio’s ESP - Anti-Spam Solution

One fine solution to protect your E-mail boxes from spam mail disease.

Today every personnel/corporations claiming to be the user of this worldwide network of computers that we call internet is associated with a number of e-mail boxes (inbox). No matter of which domains these inboxes are related to, no matter what benefits they are providing, no matter they are specific to some corporate or not they all are sharing a same problem or more likely sharing a same disease that we know as spam messages.

According to a research, a projected 40 trillion spam messages have been sent in 2008. Ferris Research determined the organizations that receive spam incur a cost of approximately $.04 per message to delete. However, the cost of locating missing “good” e-mail is far greater than deletion of “bad” e-mail – approximately $3.50 per message, due to missed business opportunities because of lost “false positives” messages.

There are a number of E-mail spam filter companies that claim to solve the problem, but in reality that is not the case, due to the approach they follow. The filter approach they follow is fundamentally flawed because filters have no way of distinguishing intent from content, or "bad" from "good" emails. They also don’t factor in “false positive” messages, so legitimate e-mails get blocked because they contain words that the filter incorrectly labels as “inappropriate.”
Now Sendio’s E-mail Security Platform (ESP) can be marked as appropriate as it solves the enterprise spam problem through its proprietary Silverlisting and Sender Address Verification (SAV) technologies, adding a human element into the process and eliminating spam, e-mail threats and the possibility of costly “false positives.” Silverlisting utilizes a set of low-level SMTP tests to determine the legitimacy of sending e-mail servers, while SAV verifies the legitimacy of first-time, unsolicited senders.

Sendio’s ESP completely eliminates spam and e-mail threats in the enterprise environment without “false positives” through SAV. Much like the verification process embraced by millions of MySpace and Facebook users, and the “buddy” list model employed by IM providers Skype and AOL, sender authentication is not a new concept. Sendio’s application of SAV to e-mail, however, is a paradigm shift, finally bringing the opt-in model used in other forms of communications to e-mail. Only first-time, unsolicited senders receive SAV requests, and once authenticated, all subsequent messages from that sender reach the recipient’s inbox. Sendio re-establishes e-mail as a trusted method of communications by totally eliminating spam and e-mail threats. This results in dramatic time-savings for users and reclaims lost resources for the company. Filters need continual fine-tuning to block unwanted messages, making spam filter management a time-consuming task for network administrators. ESP installation, on the other hand, is easy and requires minimal to zero ongoing maintenance.

Pidgin 2.5.5 & Pidgin Portable 2.5.5

A fantastic and a well known instant messaging client having an over 3 million users in 2007 releases yet another version i.e. Pidgin 2.5.5 and a portable version Pidgin 2.5.5 portable.
Application supports several protocols and both the platforms i.e. Windows and Linux, which probably is the biggest reason for the success of this messaging client. The only drawback which I see once again is no support for webcam ability. The portable version of Pidgin has enable users to plug into any PC via USB ports, no matter where you go.

FROM THE PUBLISHER OF Pidgin Portable

Pidgin Portable (formerly Gaim Portable) is the versatile Pidgin instant messaging client packaged as a portable application, so you can take your IM settings and buddy lists with you. It has all the same great features as Pidgin, including support for AOL, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and Jabber networks, but there's nothing to install on the local PC. You can also easily add portable encryption plugins for secure, encrypted messaging.
